Description
Annual Policy Panel - Georgia high school completion rates are on the rise; the latest NAEP results show our 8th graders are making advances in math; and more of our communities are becoming "work ready." On the surface, Georgia appears to be on a clear track toward improvement. So, what will help our state take a monumental leap in the near term as we face the continued tenuous state revenues, attempt to predict the 2010 legislative session outcomes and project changes in political leadership?
Is it focusing on the four pillars of reform in Race to the Top, or exploring the viability of increased school choice, or committing to pulling out all stops to fix our lowest performing schools? This year's Policy Panel will address these issues as well as contemplate other anticipated policy solutions that will impact the preparation of our students.
Joining the Partnership for the quarterly meeting is a diverse mix of policy-oriented experts from education, business and philanthropic communities.
Andre Jackson - Editorial Editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, will moderate
Andrew Broy - Associate Superintendent, Policy and Charter Schools, Georgia Department of Education
Sally Fitzgerald - Director of Education, League of Women Voters of Georgia
Cindy Loe - Superintendent, Fulton County Schools
Kelly McCuthchen - Executive Vice President, Georgia Public Policy Foundation
Danny Shoy - Program Officer, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation
As a featured part of the program, the Partnership will also celebrate "Apply to College Week" and showcase statewide collaborative strategies for increasing the entrants into the pipeline to college. This portion of the meeting will be conducted 10 - 10:30.
Registration is requested by November 10. Contact Alice Ford, 404-223-2280.
